Koh Phi Phi Weather In August

It’s like a mini-high season on Koh Phi Phi during August, because the weather cheers up considerably from May and June but the island is usually crowded all the same.

There are lots of visitors to Koh Phi Phi in August due to the European summer holidays. As such, there is a lot of younger backpackers arriving on the island and a lot of partying going on.

Make sure you book your Koh Phi Phi hotel in advance during August. This is particularly important after the Full Moon Party as many people cross from Koh Phangan to Koh Phi Phi the day after the party and so the island has a particularly large influx of people arriving during that time. Competition to find a hotel room can be fierce.

There is often good weather during July and August but it can be unpredictable. Come expecting heavy downpours of rain and pack accordingly. Rain doesnâ€™t effect the partying on the island but you might find that there are very rough seas and that visits to Maya Bay and other trips around the island are cancelled because itâ€™s too dangerous for the longtail boats to go out.

Itâ€™s strongly recommended to cross over to Koh Phi Phi by ferry rather than speedboat during August as the ferriess are better able to cope with rough seas and big waves. Some speedboats try to make the crossing even in bad weather and accidents have occurred. In August 2012 a speedboat capsized on the way to Koh Phi Phi – all 40 passengers were rescued unharmed but it was a traumatic experience for them.
