Comfort food rather than haute cuisine is the kind of food you’ll find on Koh Phi Phi – there’s plenty of places to eat but not a huge amount of difference between them

Dining is not the highlight of a trip to Koh Phi Phi since the food tends to be overridingly bland. Many people tend to eat in their hotels many of which have beachside restaurants. This is particularly so on the quieter beaches. In Tonsai Village it is a different story.

Cosmic Italian restaurant has two branches and serves excellent pizza. The Thai menu is less good. Calamero Resto is another Italian themed place with a mixture of European and Thai. If you want traditional English stodgy fare head to Little Britain. SJ Corner is near the covered market just up from the pier and does good seafood. Staff are also very friendly and they have fast wifi.

You will see a lot of locals eating in this little alley, which is always a good recommendation. Papaya was one of the first restaurants rebuilt after the tsunami and is very popular with expats. The Sports Bar is famous for its English pies and, indeed, its sports. The Pirate’s House has good Indian, Western and Thai food but the staff are a little snotty and the furniture is curiously uncomfortable. Tuk’s BBQ is situated right next to Reggae Bar, and is little more than street stall but it has excellent barbeque and it is very cheap. Pad Thai Restaurant just behind the PP Island Resort is a popular venue for noodles, grilled fish and spring rolls.
