Khlong Dao beach stretches over 3 km. It is the most developed beach area due to being so close to the main port in Saladan and offers some fantastic restaurants and bars along the beach and also along the main road which is a simple walk away from the beach. This area offer cheap Thai food to classy nicely decorated restaurants you can find it all.
Klong Dao Has A Lot Of Choices
Walking along the beach every resort offers food and drinks and many have the tables directly on the beach area. The Cha Da Beach resort offers more exquisite dining and The Costa Lanta Restaurant offers a natural environment looking over the lawns on to the beach. The Southern Lanta resort offers a very nice seafood BBQ and a beach bar. Try The Cafe Del Mare located at the front of the Maya Lanta Resort offering superb dining on a garden setting with Pizza its pizzeria and steak house I have eaten here and it really is good quality food. Hans Restaurant next to the Royal Lanta Resort offers large plates of good quality food, it is always busy and you will ofetn see Hans checking the food orders before they are delivered to the tables, keeping consistent and quality for all guests. The Easy Bar offers Thai and western classics and then there is the Cha Ba Resort which enjoys on the beach dining a nice choice for families as they have a child’s play area and also fantastic sculptures like a whales tale sticking up out of the sand.
Time For Lime – A Unique Restaurant And Cooking School
Near the southern part of the beach you will find Time For Lime – although it is a cooking school at the front the have a very nice beach bar and above they enjoy a small decked area with incredible views over the beach. The menu is changed daily and fits a taster menu.
200 meters way is the Koala Bar and Restaurant which is found at the front of Ocean View Resort, owned by Todd and Australian this is one of the best beach bars and restaurants Khlong Dao has to offer. Cool beers on draught, large strawberry daiquiris and cocktails of your choice. The Koala Bar also serves good quality Thai food and an amazing selection of very good quality western food on the beach, not forgetting the killer Pizzas. Next is the Slow Down Bar and Restaurant offering a longtail boat which was washed up by the tsunami and now converted in to a seating area for guests, they also have great happy hours with some cocktails buy one get one free offers. Another bar not to be missed is the Indian Bar which is situated at the Banana Garden home.
Klong Dao Roadside Restaurants
Khlong Dao along the road offers another extensive range of restaurants. Every few meters you can find a nice variety of food and drink and also many good real down to earth Thai restaurants.
Coffee And Cake
When leaving Saladan on the right side of the road you will find Black Coral Bar and Coffee with a nice open air feel and Richy Coffee shop offering an air con room and outside terrace.
On the left hand side of the road coming from Saladan is Nang Sabai,a popular German Bakery offering home made breads, cakes and western breakfasts. They really do enjoy serving some of the best Coffee on the Island, Double shot espresso is a real pick me up and its a real meeting point for many expat locals and tourists, sadly though its only open till 17:00. Following with the European flavour Eden Bar and Restaurant has a Swiss manager who offers pasta, steaks and Swiss specialties. Pizzeria Italia which moved from Phuket has a long list of Pizza, pasta and wine. The choice of toppings is very extensive here with imported fine cheeses and meats.
Crap Food And Warm Beer
Ling uan (Fat Monkey) restaurant have a very noticeable sign on the roadside saying Crap Food and Warm Beer – it’s certainly an attention grabber! They do actually have a very good range of drinks and homemade pizza with beers on draught and an extensive menu of cocktails not forgetting two warm and friendly owners.
Just across from the Southern Lanta resort you will find Diecks Deli where you can enjoy a taste of Europe and is open all year. After food or on a hot day you can enjoy Two Scoops Gelato and Desserts With out a doubt the best ice cream shop on Lanta and for a nice beer day or night enjoy the Cheeky Monkey Bar.
The Thai Isan restaurant (it has no marked name or signboard) offers no frills but good quality Thai food with a friendly service. This is situated opposite The Three Sisters restaurant which offers open air dining and a cocktail bar.
Real Thai Food
Lap Royet offers many noodle stands and Paya Salad BBQ chicken and is open late at night. Found next to the Lanta Mermaid Resort one Thai restaurants offers ready made food, one offers rice soup and the next offers Khao Man Kai. This is strips of tender chicken layered over rice with a nice sauce made from ginger, chilies, garlic and soya sauce giving that Spicy kick served with a small bowl of chicken broth. How ever these are only open early morning and sometimes when you arrive at 09:00 they are already sold out.
