Quiet and chilled out, Mae Haad is one of Koh Phangan’s least developed easily accessible beaches. Aside from a few dive shops, restaurants and bungalow resorts, there’s none of the usual mass development here that you can find all too easily elsewhere on the island.
The water at Mae Haad is calm and clear, with the island of Koh Ma one of Koh Phangan’s top snorkelling spots. The beach is particularly stunning in the evening, when the sun sets against the Gulf of Thailand, filling the sky with a beautiful orange-pink hue.
Accommodation on Mae Haad ranges from mid-sized four star luxury resorts to small beachfront bungalows, many of which are quite affordable. Since Mae Haad is far away from Haad Rin, it’s mostly unaffected by the flock of tourists that travel to Koh Phangan before the Full Moon Party.
Although Mae Haad is quiet and peaceful, there’s lots to do on the beach. Restaurants and bars are plentiful, with Thai and Western food available. Several dive shops offer snorkelling tours of nearby Koh Ma, as well as dive trips to popular sites around Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
