Haad Chao Phao is a chilled out beach on the west coast of Koh Phangan. Located north of Ao Srithanu and south of Haad Yao, Haad Chao Phao has a quieter vibe than its neighbors, lovely white sand and clear water that’s great for swimming and snorkelling.
One of Haad Chao Phao’s biggest draws is its coral reef, which is located about 100 metres off the beach. Although most of the beach is fairly shallow, the depth increases before the reef and makes it possible to snorkel when the sea is calm.
Since Haad Chao Phao is located on the west side of Koh Phangan, it has amazing views of the sunset. The beach isn’t completely devoid of development (there are some restaurants, resorts and bars) but has a quieter, more laid back feel than many of Koh Phangan’s other beaches.
Haad Chao Phao is a short walk from Haad Yao. Adventurous visitors can rent kayaks right off the beach and travel around the coastline, which offers access to some of the best snorkelling spots right off the island as well as providing a chance to see the island’s’ beautiful scenery.
When it comes to accommodation, Haad Chao Phao has a variety of cheap bungalow resorts and mid-range options, most of which are comfortable and well maintained. Thai and Western food is available along the beach, with a good selection of chap and mid-range restaurants.
As one of Koh Phangan’s smaller beaches, Haad Chao Phao is largely off the mass tourism radar. It’s quiet, peaceful, and full of easygoing people, making it one of the best beaches on Koh Phangan for chilling out and enjoying yourself away from the crowds.
