Baan Tai is a long, sandy beach on the south coast of Koh Phangan that stretches from Thong Sala — the island’s main administrative centre and ferry terminal — to nearby Baan Khai. Baan Tai is one of the longest beaches on Koh Phangan, and certainly one of its most popular.

Famous for its bars and nightlife, Baan Tai offers a nice blend of the party atmosphere of Haad Rin and the relaxed environment of Koh Phangan’s northwest beaches. The beach is rocky and not ideal for swimming, but great for sunbathing or relaxing and enjoying the sunset.
Baan Tai itself is a stunning white sand beach that offers great views of Koh Samui. The water is calm and peaceful during the peak season but can become choppy during the rainy season, making it a popular spot for kiteboarding and other water sports.
Like many of Koh Phangan’s other beaches, Baan Tai has a small coral reef that’s within easy swimming distance. However, the beach has a gradual slope and is extremely shallow, making it far from ideal for swimming.
Arguably the biggest reason to stay on Baan Tai is its party atmosphere. More chilled out than nearby Haad Rin, Baan Tai has plenty of beach bars that stay open until fairly late and offer a great chance to party after watching the sunset.
Accommodation on Baan Tai ranges from four star resorts to cheap bungalows. As the beach is a popular party spot, it can get quite noisy at night. If you’re searching for a quiet, undiscovered part of Koh Phangan for a romantic, isolated getaway, this may not be your favourite beach.
However, if you’re in the mood to party and meet new friends, Baan Tai is a great alternative to the more crowded, often far more expensive beach at Haad Rin.
