Chaweng is Koh Samui’s largest and most heavily developed beach. Located on the east side of the island, Chaweng Beach stretches over seven kilometres and offers the best selection of hotels, restaurants and bars of any beach on Koh Samui.

Chaweng Beach itself is an impressive beach, with seven kilometres of clean, beautiful sand and calm, clear water. There is a small reef located off the beach that’s reasonably good for snorkelling, as well as two islands in the distance that make the view from the beach great.
Although Chaweng is heavily developed, the beach is fairly peaceful and a great place to sit, sunbathe and relax during the daytime. There are many vendors along the beach, but most aren’t pushy or aggressive and don’t detract from the beach’s calm atmosphere.
The only annoyances, both of which are minor, are occasional jetskis and the beach’s close proximity to Samui International Airport, which can result in infrequent light noise as planes come in to land.
Chaweng’s biggest strengths are its convenience and variety. There is a greater variety of hotels in and around Chaweng than anywhere else on Koh Samui, from high-end villas and resorts to cheap backpacker hotels and guesthouses.
Dining in Chaweng ranges from cheap and tasty Thai food to high quality Western cafes and restaurants. There’s also a huge variety of bars and nightclubs, from beachside bars to ultra luxury hotel lounges, seedy girly bars, beer gardens and more.
All in all, Chaweng Beach is Samui’s most popular beach for a reason: it offers a great mix of convenience and variety, all with one of the island’s best beaches.
