Quiet and peaceful Bang Po Beach (also spelt Bang Por) is an isolated piece of coastline in the north of Koh Samui. Far removed from the popular resorts on the island’s east coast, Bang Po offers a taste of Koh Samui as it once was 20+ years ago.

At almost six kilometres in length, Bang Po is one of Koh Samui’s largest beaches. The beach is quiet, uncrowded and clean, with reasonably clear water and none of the noise from speedboats and jetskis that can ruin the atmosphere on Chaweng and Lamai.
A small coral reef located a short distance from the beach makes Bang Po a reasonable place to snorkel, although visibility isn’t fantastic. As Bang Po is on Samui’s northern coast, the entire beach has a great view of Koh Phangan.
Bang Po is far less developed than Samui’s east coast beaches. Accommodation is limited to a selection of hotels and bungalows, as well as the ultra-luxury Four Seasons Resort. The entire beach has a quiet, peaceful atmosphere that hasn’t at all been ruined by mass tourism.
Dining options around Bang Po range from cheap and simple Thai food to excellent seafood, a selection of Western restaurants and several cafes. There are also several bars set up right on the beach that are great for enjoying the sunset with a cool drink.
Ban Tai Beach, a small ‘secret’ beach at the eastern end of Bang Po, is a great place to enjoy Samui’s stunning coastline without any crowds. If you’re searching for Koh Samui without any traces of mass tourism, Bang Po and Ban Tai are sure to satisfy.
