Some of the larger resorts reduce the size and facilities and many will close some of the restaurants in the resort. Due to Koh Lanta being very quiet in the Low season you may also find that some of the larger resorts are half empty or even deserted depending on when and where you stay.
If your looking for solitude and not worried about it being quiet and not worried about it being out of season then Koh Lanta is for you.
Below we have recommended resorts which are open all year, offer great value and also provide in room entertainment for those rainy days.
Saladan in the north of the Island is not as affected to much by the low season. Some restaurants close in the height of low season and some small shops and market areas selling souvenirs will close but many shops stay open all year. Saladan is a great place to stop for fish restaurants and also Serenity massage and Spa is located in Saladan so even if it rains you have something to enjoy.
The beach area along Khlong Dao shuts down in the middle of May till October so you will not find any restaurants or bars along the beach except Time for Lime which is open all year. Walk out of your resort tho and you will find many restaurants along the road side with in minutes of walking. Khlong Doa also offers the chance to enjoy the near by Saladan. Khlong Dao is also where you may find small waves to learn to surf board.
Along Long beach all the beach bars and restaurants close down between the months of May till October – if you walk to the road side nearly all restaurants will be open through out the year. If the Island gets very quiet some may close for a week to relax or for refurbishments. Long beach also offers Villa for rent which are more like a home then a hotel and make a great choice for the low season.
Klong Khong beach is a less developed and about half of the hotels are now staying open all year. May till October no restaurants or beach bars will be found open along the beach. Along the road many of the restaurants stay open all year, how ever please note there is not the same amount open as in Long Beach and Klong Nin. Klong Khong also offers some great villas for rent which are perfect in the low season as they are protected by the elements.
Klong Nin due to it being a small area is not really affected by the Low Season, many bars and restaurants along the beach stay open although they do not have there chairs and dining tables on the beach like high season, you can sit inside and enjoy your food.
Kantiang Bay is a favorite place to stay in the Low season due to the shape of the Bay and the resorts in this area the beach is always kept clean. Other beaches, especially where resorts have closed are affected by debris washed up along the beach and tide mark especially after a big storm. Thank fully a lot of the hotels which stay open (and special thanks also to a lot of the dive operators and other business owners who do do regular clean ups) on the Island. If you choose one of the more luxurious resorts like the Pimalai, the Layana and the Rawai Warin they impose daily beach clean ups and the beach area is always spotless.
Due to the winds change directions between May till October and some resorts place green sheeting up along the beach round June or July to stop the winds damaging the plants.
