Yanui beach (also known as Ya-Nui Beach) is very small and easy to overlook. This is a good reason to hang out there since development has passed it by and most of the hotels and restaurants (which are one and the same) are run and owned by the same families who have been here for generations
Yanui Beach was particularly hard hit in the devastating Tsunami of December 2004, the wave coming 2km inland, but things have now been rebuilt although there is still not much here. It consists of a small bay with big hills at either end, the views from which are some of Phuket’s most spectacular. Less than a kilometre off the shore is the small, uninhabited island of Koh Keyao Noi which fishermen and sailors use as an occasional mooring shelter for their boats. The sand on Yanui Beach is slightly yellow and there is nothing slick about this place, which is exactly why some might like to stay here. Its a pleasantly lost little corner although a little rough around the edges. During high season there’s a restaurant on the beach along with deck chairs and sun loungers as well as places to hire snorkelling gear – Yanui’s waters are very clear.
Most visitors usually come from nearby Naiharn beach, and Yanui is the classic hideaway beach which is fun to see for the day and then retreat to more comfortable surroundings for the night. However, there are a couple of resorts nearby to Yanui beach although not located directly on it, including Yanui Resort.
