The main activity in Railay is doing nothing at all, but if you do suddenly feel a burst of activity coming on, Railay does offer some things to do that one would have trouble finding elsewhere.
Kayaking
With its rocky coastline, hidden inlets and crystal clear waters, Railay is the perfect place from which to go sea kayaking. In fact one can only reach many of the most dramatic spots in the area by boat. Learning to kayak is very easy and the views of the limestone karsts from the sea are a unique and stunning way to get a new perspective on Railay’s natural beauty.
Local guides with a good local knowledge of the natural history and geography of the Railay will be able to show you the best places as well as giving you paddling and safety instruction.
Things To Do In Ao Nang, Railay and Krabi Town
There are lots of excursions and activities in Ao Nang itself, but also in nearby places like Railay Beach and Krabi Town.
Rock Climbing
Krabi offers world-class rock climbing with over 700 routes of varying difficulties. Some can only be reached by boat whilst others involve a jungle hike. The promontory between Cave Beach and Railay East is home to some of the most popular spots. The climbs are graded according to the French system ranging from beginner 5a’s to classic multipitch 6a’s right up to the extremes of 8c. All resorts will be able to steer you towards training courses run by trained instructors and all the necessary equipment is provided.
Viewpoints
There is one excellent viewpoint as you go towards the inland lagoon. The views are stunning. Another viewpoint is between Phra Nang and Railay West and for this one you will need to have a flashlight. You start at Cave Beach at the opposite end to the Princess Cave where one finds all the graphically phallic symbols placed there by couples wanting to have children. You then walk up the rocks until you come across the cave entrance. You walk through the cave to a ladder and once you have climbed that, Railay West is laid out before you.
