Ferries and speedboats have a greatly reduced service to Koh Lanta during low season, but it is still easy to get onto the island by a minivan transfer
Low Season Koh Lanta Transfers:
Traveling to Koh Lanta is still possible all year as it is joined to the mainland by two car ferry crossings – these operate everyday from 06:00 till 22:00 and with an extensive range of private luxury minivan transfers ranging from Krabi Airport, Krabi Town, Ao Nang, Phuket Airport or Phuket beaches which means traveling to Koh Lanta is still easy.
The air-conditioned, spacious luxury minivan will transfer up to 6 guests and will pick up direct from any hotel or airport and safely transfer you to your resort on Koh Lanta – or the other way round if you wish to leave Koh Lanta.

Why Do Ferries And Speedboats Reduce Their Service To Koh Lanta In Low Season?
Koh Lanta is affected by the winds changing directions during monsoon season, causing potentially rough sea conditions. Therefore the ferry and speedboat companies run a reduced service from May until October. Ferry services to the popular southern islands like Koh Lipe and Langkawi are also reduced during low season.
The ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi operates every day and if the weather is OK then it is possible to travel to Koh Lanta from Koh Phi Phi. However some time this is not possible for a week so it’s not reliable to assume this connection will work when planning your trip.
Please be careful if you decide to take a speedboat during low season – some speedboats are not safe in rough seas and there have been accidents where speedboats have turned over. Please see this story on Australian news website ABC News about an Australian tourist being on a sinking speedboat on the journey to Phuket from Koh Phi Phi by speedboat.
Due to unpredictable waves, the Krabi Airport – Koh Lanta Express Transfer also stops operating from May to October, as it’s not safe to operate the speedboat.
