Karon Beach is a huge expanse of white sand that can get quite windy at certain times of the year. It remains a great deal quieter than Patong and until ten years ago it was very pleasant with a mixture of shops and restaurants scattered about catering to all styles and budgets.
Karon is now overdeveloped being a solid wall of resorts and antiseptic shopping malls. The shops and malls are clustered together along Karon’s beach road, and form a small village of guesthouses, restaurants, bars and gift shops that has its own network of roads amongst which to wander. The beach remains pleasant although there is almost no shelter to be had from the sun.
Unsurprisingly, there is a wide choice of accommodation at Karon Beach from huge multi-room resorts with all amenities to humble guesthouses tucked away further away from the beach.
