Krabi Town is quiet, Ao Nang being the place to find lively nightlife. There are some good places to hang out in Krabi Town at night though, and it has a great live music scene. Many musicians who play well-paying gigs on Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui, Phuket or Bangkok come back here to kick back and jam. It’s a relaxed and very creative scene.
The Amata Bar
Near the night market the Amata is a high ceilinged open wooden and bamboo structure that reminds one of traditional houses in Bali. This is the Amata bar and it is a great venue for live music and some really top class musicians play here including very highly rated session players.
The owner of the bar himself, Khun Choi, is a really well known performer in the south of Thailand and he oversees this wonderful venue with a kind of benign and joyful indulgence as yet another musician takes the stage, the whiskey flows and the grooves get more intense.
The Night Joy Bar
This laid back, reggae themed pub is the fiefdom of the absolutely charming Mr Bao and his band of friendly hippies, many of whom double up as superb musical talent. Most nights it is a friendly haven of peace where one can kick back, chat to both locals and visitors and listen to a range of wonderful soul and reggae classics as the bar staff casually start picking up percussion instruments and then guitars and the whole thing turns into a live jam. They have some wonderful acoustic performers at the weekend who play a mixture of sad Thai folk songs with crafted harmonies and finger picking guitar with the occasional traditional Thai instrument thrown into the mix. The Night Joy Bar is conveniently located just off Chao Fah Road in the heart of the little tourist district.
The Rooftop Bar
At the Hello KR Mansion is the Rooftop Bar. Generally it is only open in high season. It is a long climb to the 5th floor to get up there but it’s breezy and cool once you are arrive with some great views of Khao Khanab Nam. Food is prepared way down on the ground floor and brought up to the 5th by an ingenious system of pulleys.
Things To Do In Ao Nang, Railay and Krabi Town
There are lots of excursions and activities in Ao Nang itself, but also in nearby places like Railay Beach and Krabi Town.
