Koh Lanta is usually blessed with blue skies but it also sadly has days where it does rain. Due to the shape of the Island and mountain range it could be raining on one part of the Island but not in another.
If you are on Koh Lanta in the green season you may be unlucky when the heavens open it really does pour down, some times only in the mornings or afternoons and when a storm appears it may continue raining non stop for several days. Even in the high season it can rain.
What can you do when it’s raining?
Most people will have only packed shorts and t shirts not thinking about the rain so to keep dry go buy a cheap poncho. These can be bought in every 7 eleven shop or shops that sell souvenirs ranging from 20 to 200 baht depending on how cool you would like to look. When you have your poncho you can go anywhere in the rain, it is a hot country after all, just a little bit wet.
Shopping in Saladan, the main town center of Koh Lanta where you will find a host of shops. Khlong Nin is also great for shopping as they have a few shops with man made jewellery. Old town you will find Hammock House where you can buy specially designed hammocks, they are actually conceived as a way to help the Mlabri tribe of North-Thailand in their search for a new livelihood.
