Koh Lanta has an amazing mix of cultures who simply seem to get along. This is particularly evident when they stage the Laanta Lanta Festival in Lanta Old Town which happens each year on the first Full Moon in March. In 2016 the Laanta Lanta festival will happen on March 7 to 9.
The Old Town is transformed for the 3 day festival which takes place in the evenings. Many bamboo lights are erected over the main road giving this incredible warm glow. All along the main road you will find many stalls selling a cross between Thai fine crafts, art, clothes, hammocks also authentic food stalls with local cuisine and drinks and a play area for the children.
Two big stages are built where you will find a variety of traditional Sea Gypsy music to Reggae and also Thai dancing in beautiful Thai costumes from the past.
Around these arenas you will find many of Lanta’s resorts and restaurants who have set up their own stalls selling delicious food and who decorate their areas with their own colourful style. Come hungry because there’s a huge choice of dishes to sample.
Laanta Lanta really is a very relaxed affair for all the family and age groups of every culture to enjoy and draws crowds from all over Koh Lanta.
