So I have put together a short collection of video’s which really do show what can be seen on each dive site.

Koh Ha This video starts with a tour of the Go dive Shop and Boat. I have added this as this is the boat I work on and it gives you a greater view of what we do.

Koh Ha is fantastic for beginners, advanced and snorkelers. The visibility usually exceeds 25mtrs. It has a lagoon area with a beach. For the more adventurous diver it has some caves, one with an air pocket called the Cathedral as it towers 30mtrs high.

Keep a keen eye out for Sea Moths, Harlequin Shrimps, Sea Horse, Turtles, Ghostpipe Fish and a great variety of Nudi Branch.

Koh Bida Islands These islands are 2 of my favorites mainly due to the incredible scenery above and below the water. Hard and soft corals are in abundance, you have reef walls dropping straight down to 30 meters, swim thru’s and Giant Gorgonian fans as big as a bus.

What you can look out for whilst diving are Octopus, Cuttlefish, Barracuda, Trevally eating frenzies, Leopard and Black Tip Sharks and if you keep looking out maybe a Whale Shark.

Hin Daeng / Hin Muang These 2 sites really are the best diving in the area and when I go there I can’t sleep the night before as I am too excited. Unfortunately due to strong currents they are not for the beginner diver.

Hin Muang is an oblong rock, submerged 10 meters underwater, stretching around 200 meters and dropping straight down to an incredible 70 meters. Hin Daeng is around 400 meters apart and is the opposite, with canyon’s, wall and pinnacles.

Both dive sites have impressive soft corals, and some would say home to Manta Rays sometimes with up to 5 circling me at one time and again if you are lucky enough a Whale Shark may be passing.

Other sightings include schools of Batfish, Yellow Tail Barracuda, Rainbow Runners, Giant Moray Eels and the best show of colorful Marine Fish anywhere in the world.

Whilst on Koh Phagnan it was Songkran. Thailands new years festival which is a Buddhist holiday mainly starting on April the 13th and in some places lasting up to 5 days. The best thing about Songkran is they celebrate with the use of water and believe me its not just a little bit.

Many call Songkran the worlds biggest water fight and young and old people participate in the water play, understandably with the temperatures reaching 34 degrees and over it is a welcoming refreshing break.

The significance of water has many origins ( today it is mainly for fun ) One thought is they can wash away the bad luck of the previous year and cleanse there lives for the next and a lot of Buddha statues are also cleaned. One of the oldest Songkran traditions is where many Thai’s apply a white powder or paste to the face neck or torso of other participants. This white paste is for protection and helps to ward of evil.

In the video you will see the water fight and the appliance of the powder.

If you do have the good luck to participate in Songkran be prepared for allot of fun! Be prepared to get very very wet and if driving a motorbike drive very slowly as you never know when a bucket of water may be tossed at you. Also as its a Buddhist holiday please remember allot of Muslim people do not participate.

A quicker and more exciting way to make the transfer is by fast boat transfer from Krabi to Koh Lanta. This involves a 45 minute car journey from Krabi Airport to the first car ferry. However, instead of going on the ferry, you go on board a speedboat which then takes you on a stunning boat ride across the water along the coastline of Koh Lanta. The journey takes around 30 to 60 minutes depending on weather and conditions and you arrive directly on the beach of your hotel. That means the total journey time should be 1 to 1.5 hours and a lot more fun!

Pimalai transfer boat

The bad news is that there is currently no dedicated private boat transfer service running to Koh Lanta which you can book independent of which hotel you decide to stay at.

You need to be staying at the Layana Resort on Long Beach or the Pimalai Resort on Kantiang Bay in order to get a fast boat transfer to and from the island. You can ask for the boat transfer at the time of booking. Both hotels are luxury establishments - follow the links to make your booking and to request a private boat transfer.

Please note that the private boat transfer only operates in high season from November to April and is dependent on the weather. The usual car ferry option would have to be substituted if the sea was too rough for the speedboat.

At Layana the boat transfer costs 1900 Baht per person from Krabi (minimum 2 people).

At Pimalai the boat transfer costs 1400 Baht per person from Krabi.

Both hotels also offer transfers from Phuket and Trang to Koh Lanta for roughly double the price, and this involves a longer car journey - 2 hours plus - and then the boat ride.

Another beautiful day on Khlong Khong Beach

During high tide the beach and colour of the water are amazing. However, whilst it is low tide many rocks appear in many places making it not good for swimming and slightly ugly. Luckily though most resorts have got swimming pools.

Khlong Khong is a great place to watch the sunset and at night many bars have their own fire shows and parties. Check out The Sound Shack Bar, Fisherman’s Cottage, Where Else, The Chocolate Bar and Bubble Jungle who host parties on different nights. Some you may be able to dance till the sun comes up. Not so many restaurants are situated on the beach but are set back in the resorts. All of them you can visit but if you want really really great food head south on the beach to Fisherman’s Cottage.

If you walk to the road you have a a few scattered internet shops, coffee shop, and Thai Restaurants where you are always welcome. Please take a torch with you as this stretch of road has no lighting.
