Special Koh Lanta Resort Package – Lanta Sand Resort and Spa

One of my favourite resorts on Koh Lanta is Lanta Sand Resort and Spa which is situated on Long Beach. To keep up with Koh Lanta’s newer resorts, Lanta Sand rebuilt its reception area with flowing waterfalls and comfortable seating. They also built another swimming pool with connecting luxury apartments. The bottom 11 rooms have private balcony and pool access. The upper rooms have private bathtubs on your own private balcony. They can even provide one or two bedroom junior suites.

I stayed there a few years ago with my family and friends and enjoyed the well designed and well equipped rooms, especially the Deluxe Villa with there own private bathroom set outside in a private tropical garden.

Koh Lanta Sunsets Made In Paradise

Rob: Koh Lanta is a great place to visit with all the beach areas and accommodation on the west side of the Island. This makes for some breath taking sunsets, with the sun literally dropping off in to the Ocean and all the sky changing amazing colours.

    Koh Lanta Sunset
Sun setting from Khlong Dao Beach

These set of photos where taken in June whilst walking along Khlong Dao Beach. In the high season the sunsets can be even more impressive.

    Sunset Koh Lanta

I really enjoy when the sun has gone down and the sun rays beam up under the clouds. This brings the sky back to life with a spectrum of pastel colours and sometimes glowing red. Then slowly changing colours again before darkness wraps around the sky.

Sunset Khlong Dao Beach Koh Lanta

You can view great sunsets from all Koh Lanta beaches but the best ones where you can find a nice beach bar to have a cool drink or relax in a hammock under the trees are Long Beach, also known as Phra-Ae Khlong Dao, Khlong Nin, For the energetic participate in a friendly game of football or beach volleyball. These beach areas are also best for jogging or swimming. What ever you do Enjoy the sunset.

Things To Do On Koh Lanta When Its Hot Hot Hot!

Rob: I always like when you arrive to a new country and they open the plane door for the first time. The warm air rushes in and everybody looks at each other thinking its Hot!

Well Thailand is no exception. Its not just the burning sun what wears you down but its also the humidity. On Koh Lanta its always hot and from February you feel it getting hotter and stickier every day until around April when it starts to cool a little but still remains hot.

    Sun on Lanta

So what can we do on Koh Lanta When Its Hot Hot Hot?

    • Scuba Diving:
What a great way of keeping cool being in the water. Koh Lanta boasts some of Thailand’s most spectacular Marine Life and Corals. It has warm clear waters and is ideal for learning to dive, with plenty to interest experienced divers too.. Choose from Day trips or Koh Lanta Liveaboard. Learn to Scuba Dive with courses starting everyday.
    • Swimming:
Koh Lanta has some nice beaches to swim and cool of. Try and go to Long Beach ( Phra-Ae ) or Khlong Nin. One of my favourite beaches is Nui Beach where you are nealry always alone with the whole beach to yourself. Or simply laze in your resort Pool.
    • Speed Boat Tours.
Koh Lanta is part of an archipelago which is made up of over fifty small islands and a great way to see these Islands and keep cool is by a one day speeboat tour. Choose from Koh Rok with its pritine beaches and corals,
4 Island tour with a visit to Emerald Cave or Koh Phi Phi with is amazing scenery and swim in Maya Bay famous for the movie The Beach.
    • Have a Sun Burn Treatment Massage
When it is really hot most people don’t use the sun scream as they should and will get burnt very nicely. A brilliant way of soothing this is by having an Aloe Vera Massage also known as sunburn treatment. At Serentiy Massage and Spa a 60 minute massage costs 500 Thai Baht. Well worth it.
    • Go to 7 Eleven shop.
If you only have a fan in your resort a good way of keeping cool is going in to a 7 Eleven shop. These shops are always cold with the air-con. Its quite funny when you see a Thai with a jumper, fleece and gloves on working in the shop. Take your time look around and before you know it you to will be asking where you can buy some gloves.
    • Chill in a hammock:
Sometimes its just to hot so you need to find a little shade and chill in your hammock. If you haven’t got a hammock a great place to buy one is in The Old Town from Hammock House. They specialise in hand made hammocks with some unique styles and patterns.
    • Drink A Beer:
Its got to be said there is nothing better than an Ice Cold Beer on a hot day. So remember when your in the 7 Eleven shop keeping cool you can buy some beers!
    • Sightseeing around Koh Lanta
Hire a motorbike with the refreshing breeze and travel around Lanta viewing the many beautifull beaches and other attractions. If your not good on a bike a safe way to travel around Koh Lanta would be in a car especially with a local guide who knows the area. There are 2 One Day trips which you can check out. Both with English speaking guides.

Koh Lanta Sightseeing Tour which includes Elephant Trekking, Kayaking, Visit to the Old Town and Saladan and also lunch at the viewpoint restaurant.

Koh Lanta Animal Scenic Tour which includes Elephant trekking, Monkey show, lunch at view point restaurant, continue with the national park and enjoy time in Khlong Nin.

    • Watch the Sunset
All the best beaches are situated on the west coast of Koh Lanta. You have the most amazing view with Koh Phi Phi in the distance and the sun setting in to the sea. When the sky also changes colour you will witness something special.

    Koh Lanta Seafood Restaurants

Rob: I am from England and I never got to really experience and enjoy the taste of fresh Seafood. Living in Thailand how ever has changed all that and it is in the past few years I can now fully enjoy Squid ( Pla Muek ), Prawns ( Goong ), Crab ( Puu ) some great tasting Fish ( Pla ) and Oysters ( Hoi ).

Being under the stars eating is superb and all along the beaches you will find many restaurants with little boats lit up. The boats are loaded with ice and you can view a selection of the daily catch. Just pick what you want and they will cook it for you. If your not sure you can just ask and they will recommend a dish for you to try.

    Seafood Restaurant Koh Lanta
Lanta Seafood Restaurant – seating is situated behind on the sea.

Below are 5 restaurants which are not on the beach but I think will give you a greater choice of Seafood and are better value for money.

    • Lanta Seafood – Saladan
    • Saladan Seafood – Saladan
    • Ruen Mai Restaurant – Saladan
    • Seaview restaurant – Saladan
    • Red Snapper – Prae Ae

The first four are found in Saladan and the restaurants are built on stilts stretching out on to the sea. They have a wide choice of Seafood and the fish are very fresh, crabs and lobster are usually still alive. But its not only Seafood they also serve most Thai dishes and they also have things like spaghetti, burgers and fries. The Red Snapper is in Phr Ae and is set in the trees. I have included this because the Salmon which you can enjoy as a starter or main course is delicious.

A few of my favourite Seafood dishes:

Pla Nung Manow – A whole fish steamed with chillies, corriander and lemon juice.

Tom Yam Talay – Clear and spicy Seafood Soup.

Puu Pat Pong Karee – Crab in Yellow Curry ( not spicy )

Goong Grathiem Prik Thai – Shrimps with Garlic and Black Pepper.

Talay Jarn Ron – Hot plate of Seafood with mixed vegetable marinated in a Thai Sauce.

    My Favourite Koh Lanta Restaurant

Rob: One of my favourite Koh Lanta restaurants is View Point Restaurant and for many reasons. The first obviously has to be the breath taking scenery.

    viewpoint restaurant koh lanta
This picture is looking out from Viewpoint Restauarant

The view from here is one of the best on Koh Lanta, with the restaurant situated on a mountainside overlooking the East side of Koh Lanta which is not developed like the West Side. On a clear day you can see many small Islands with there sun kissed beaches standing high and proud in the sparkling water. Further in the distance you you can follow the mainland’s mountain ranges heading to Trang and further South.

Just sitting here with a gentle breeze blowing gives you a sense of freedom and relaxation. Sometimes I pop here for a coffee in the morning before I start work on my computer.

Its not just the view tho, all the food and beverages are freshly made and taste delicious. They serve a wide variety of food ranging from the usual Thai dishes of Seafood, Curry’s, Noodles and Rice but they also cater for the westener who craves burger and fries. One particular tasty Thai dish is Tom Yam Seafood. Its a very spicy Soup with many great herbs to create a unique flavour.

Another thing to check out while your here is the wildlife. You can spot many eagles floating high in the sky which are just incredible to watch . Butterfly’s of various colours moving silently around but if you take time and check out the ground and surrounding trees you may be lucky enough to spot some wild monkeys. I sat here and watched a group playing for around 30 minutes and even spotted a baby monkey it was a great thrill.

Safe Way To Travel Around Koh Lanta

Rob: Koh Lanta is 30 Kilometers long which means you will need some form of transport to get around. Taxi’s are great but become quite expensive with many trips so most people decide to hire motorbikes.

    Koh Lanta Road

Motorbikes are amazing, I drive one everyday and I know there is nothing more exhilarating then traveling at speed with the sun beating down and the sea on the horizon. All you can think as you zoom around is WOW! Life Feels Good!

But the problem is when you don’t have any experience on a bike traveling around in your shorts and flip flops ( be carefull also of an unexpected suntan). Koh Lanta’s roads hold some great surprises with large holes, gravel and dirt, steep hills on the mountainside and bends that are not even signposted. Never mind the other drivers and buffalo’s sometimes found in the middle of the road.

    Koh Lanta Road

The above photo is traveling down the hill from Viewpoint Restaurant. Obviously its on the mountainside and just as you get to the bottom it leads to the right on to an even steeper hill with bad bends which you can view in the next picture.

    Koh Lanta Road

Not all roads are roads – some are still dirt tracks on Koh Lanta and when rain falls these tracks become deep grooves. The picture below is of the road you have to travel along to reach Bamboo Bay and the National Park.

Road to Bamboo Bay Koh Lanta

So a safe way to travel around Koh Lanta would be in a car especially with a local guide who knows the area. There are 2 One Day trips which you can check out. Both have English speaking guides.

So let them take you safely to view some of Koh Lanta’s beautifull scenery. You know it makes sense.

These trips operate between November and April so if you come in the Low Season and get a bike, enjoy but take care!

    Koh Lanta Beaches

Koh Lanta is 30 Kilometers long and has around 10 beach areas with some ranging from 500 meters long to 5 kilometers. All the beach areas are a little different but all are impressive.

Khlong Dao Beach or Long Beach which are closest to Saladan and the piers are more developed with a greater selection of resorts, restaurants and also more entertainment, Atm’s and pharmacies.

    Long Beach
Long Beach even on a busy day its not busy.

If you head South to Kantaing Bay there are less amenities or room selection but there will also be less people and the vibe feels very different. All along Koh Lanta you will see some breath taking scenery.

    Kantiang Bay Koh Lanta
Enjoy a stroll on Kantiang Bay

How do you know which beach area to stay and what facilities are around?
