Koh Lanta Is Finally Open All Year!

Rob: Normally this time of year I would be doing a good bye farewell blog reminiscing on the last 6 months of diving.

But not this year. Its my pleasure to announce Koh Lanta is actually open all year round.( well most of it anyway )

Welcome to Koh Lanta Sign

Normally during the Low Season Koh Lanta has had very little tourism and most of the Thai owned resorts, restaurants and bars closed down. The lack of tourism was partly due to the winds changing direction and the dive season only being from November to May.Lanta also did not have the accommodation or facilities it does now so people didn’t have many places to stay or to participate in any activities.

In the next few weeks I will write blogs about the discounted accommodation on Lanta and I will research to find some pretty attractive offers.

I will also focus on what you can do on the Island and I will let you know about the Diving as many shops are staying open this year as the Andaman Sea still has some great diving around Koh Ha and Koh Phi Phi ( how ever this does depend on the weather )

Also I will be adding some more transfers on to the site which will make it easier and quicker for you to transfer to Koh Lanta from many of Thailand’s other great destinations which will give you plenty of time to relax and enjoy more time by the pool.

So all in all the Low Season as its usually called is looking good with cheaper accommodation, less crowded beaches and a great feeling of real Thai community and try not to forget the spectacular scuba diving.

I will also be reminiscing on the best of the 2008/2009 season with some great videos and photo’s just to keep you excited. I know I said I wouldn’t in the first paragraph but it has been a great season with some special memories.

Nemo and Barracuda

Rob: Its always very hard writing a blog after seeing Whale Sharks as nothing seems to compare. So I thought how about going from the biggest fish I am likely to witness to one of my favourite fish and also some smaller baby fish.

The diving in April is very very good. Its heading to the low season so there is not as many guests traveling which makes for quieter dive sites. Its only the start of the season and end of the season you get quality like this. Koh Ha has recently had some outstanding visibility 30 / 40 meters plus. Diving around the Bida Islands and Koh Phi Phi is also very good but can change over night.

These 2 videos where made on the 13th April at Koh Ha. The first one shows a school of Baby Barracuda which can be found hanging around Koh Ha Lagoon. They have been around for several years and although they never appear to get any bigger they always seem to get stronger in numbers. Sometimes you may view between 100 and 150 ( no I didn’t count them ) circling around you. Even tho they are small they are still impressive to watch.

The next video was taken at Koh Ha Yai on the 2nd dive of the day. There is something still cool about watching Nemo ( Western Clownfish ) as they dart in and out of the Anemone.

Hope you enjoy the smaller things in life!
