That works out as a big 25 per cent discount per diver if they want to share the savings between themselves. It’s also the perfect way for dive professionals to dive for free if they bring three of their students on the liveaboard.

The MV Flying Seahorse begins all trips in Koh Lanta, but can pick up divers from both Koh Phi Phi and Phuket if they wish to join a particular liveaboard.

Happy Christmas!

Rob:Happy Christmas to you all from AmazingLanta. We wish you all a successfull and safe New Year!

Here is a few photo’s which I have taken in the last week which I hope you enjoy!

This Turtle was taken at Hin Muang. We have been seeing him for the past few months. Now I have been diving there for many years and not really seen many turtles there so this one is great.

This Ghostpipefish was taken on the 2nd dive after the turtle and it found in its usual spot at Hin Daeng.

This Flabellina is one of my favourite nudibranchs. It is so colourfull. I took this picture at Koh Ha. The great thing with digital cameras is you can take many shots from different angles. How surprised was I when I moved position.

Is that his tongue sticking out at me?

Happy Diving!

Beach Bums

Rob:We organized a volleyball competition against another dive school. Obviously not a serious game tho as it was 9 each side. Also on the Go Dive team the average size is 4ft 2in and the other teams average age was around 85. We played after work at the Koala Bar on Khlong Dao.

Beach Volley Ball

After a week of exchanged comments the game was underway. As the game started it was obvious no practice was taken and we were soon losing by 9-0 big trouble ahead. Maybe! Then the tide changed we slowly clawed it back. We had a few unclear rulings tho as the referee was on the mobile and kept missing the action.

Beach Volley Ball

As you can see in the photo besides an amazing sunset the trophy was a huge container of beer to drink together. Sadly we only gave the losers a sip, at least they could still taste victory. Better luck next time!

Beach Volley Ball

What a great way to finish the day with some great friends. Thank you to both teams!

Octopus are so Amazing

Rob: After the first amazing dive at Hin Muang with the Manta Rays, we moved the boat about 800mtrs to the next dive site named Hin Daeng. Although they are so close to each other they are so different in topography and depth.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the Magical Manta’s on this dive they must have still been playing on Hin Muang. Not to worry tho as we had time to take in the breath taking Colours and reef fish on offer. Apart from seeing many Juvenile Emperor Angelfish, Ghostpipe Fish, Trevally and Barracuda’s we where able to witness this Octopus on the move.

The first video shows the Octopus hiding. If you give them time to get used to your presence and you don’t threaten them in anyway they will surprise you by popping out. I wasn’t so sure at first if he was going to come out but after a few minutes i noticed a tentacle movement as he was adjusting his body. Wicked here he comes.

As he disappeared under the rock I turned my camera off very pleased with watching the show of him changing his colours very quickly and his amazing movement in the water. I headed off around a rock but hit the current again. Changing direction up the small canyon I headed back to where I saw the Octopus 10minutes before.

Now this 2nd Octopus was sitting atop a rock and when he moves down he actually goes into the same whole as the 1st one. I am not sure if he is the same one tho as this one shows off a white stripe down his head whilst he is moving. He stays in the same whole for a brief moment but look closely when he comes out and disguises himself as a rock next to the anemone. Wow! talk about perfect camouflage, Octopus are so Amazing!

What a great day diving!

Playing With Manta Rays at Hin Muang

Rob:We’ve had some amazing manta ray action during December so far. For the first dive of the day we decided to dive Hin Muang. A relatively deep site with the occasional strong current and because of these conditions it is really recommended for the more experienced diver. As we jumped from the boat and where bobbing on the surface cleaning our masks heading to the buoy line a frantic scream came from all the boat crew MANTA MANTA MANTA!!!!!!!!!

That was it – going down the buoy line was ignored and we all descended straight on to the dive site. For the first few minutes i couldn’t see what all the commotion was about, instead i saw some divers heading out into the blue, cameras angled out trying to get that perfect shot. Stay on the reef I told Jan and Dorthe my dive buddies.

Suddenly a speck of white grew bigger and bigger forming into a unmistakable shape as a Manta came gliding towards us. Wow what a great feeling! Especially when people look at you and go yeah! 2 minutes into the dive and could it really get any better.

This first video was when we where cruising along the top of Hin Muang pinnacle around 16mtrs deep. You can see the beautiful corals and it was so great to watch the Manta slowly glide in. Hope you enjoy the videos Keith! Sadly his camera stopped working on the dive

The video shows the Manta’s distinct shape and colour coming slowly and gracefully towards me. It just glides in with no effort and comes over the top. Don’t panic though it knows you are in the water and we never touch them!

Surprisingly it did get better, the Manta stayed with us for the full hour of diving. On our way back to the buoy line to make a safety stop we where even further rewarded as we followed one Manta leaving the reef another came in to view. Wow we have 2 Manta’s!!!!! What a great feeling and still another dive left.

When I came to the surface, besides all the happy smiling faces, I saw the Flying Seahorse, Lanta’s only liveaboard operator. Their guests were also enjoying the show. They offer Liveaboards departing from Koh Lanta and usually dive Hin Muang in the morning before any other boats arrive.

At Go Divewe dive Hin Muang / Hin Daeng twice a week Wednesdays and Saturdays. We can also arrange other days for you depending on your schedule just let us know.

Hope you enjoyed the videos and hope you get the chance to dive with Mantas.

Manta Rays At Hin Daeng and Hin Muang December 2008

Chris: The manta rays at Hin Daeng and Hin Muang put on a spectacular show last week – and my friend Peter Walker, who’s an accomplished videographer, was lucky enough to be there to capture the action. Check out this awesome 2 minute clip of the mantas on his website, including an amazing close encounter where the manta came directly at him before passing directly over his head – incredible!
