Nudibranch Heaven

Rob: This week i have been super busy but not with much fun diving only with courses especailly the Open Water Course. These are always a lot of fun for me. I especially buzz when I meet nice people, introducing them to this special world and I love the feeling of watching there confidence grow and happy smiling faces.

When we first learn to dive all we are really interested in is seeing the big fish, who can blame us tho they are easy to spot and its amazing to watch a fish swim and hunt in its natural environment. But when you have seen the same fish 100 times you start to want so find something a little different and unique.

I really like finding Nudibranch, they come in all shapes and sizes but are mainly very small. Most people say they are snails developed through time. They eat only poisonous plants and store the toxin. The colors are there defense and a warning sign of their poison to other animals so they don’t get eaten.

These photo’s where all taken at Koh Ha on he same day, I was diving with Mike, Pauline and Delphine aka dolphin who were also thrilled at the sightings. Hope you enjoy these photo’s as much we did.

This Nudibranch ( Halgerda ) photo was taken at Koh Ha Yai the first dive of the day

This Facelinidae is one of my favourites and is found in the same area on Koh Ha Yai for many years. I always enjoy taking people to see it as its so beautifull.

If you have good eyes I am sure you will find them also. It amazes me I can spot a Nudibranch on the rock but i can’t find my keys in my bungalow.

New Dive Season – New Camera

Rob: Returning back to Koh Lanta for the new dive season is always special and exciting. I came back on the 20th of October finding some of the dive shops had already opened for a few weeks. I was then unfortunately taken ill so had to take 2 weeks off to recover and here i am announcing the New Dive Season Is Open!!!!!!!

Go Dive the shop i work with opened its doors early since the start of October.

Lanta Diving Safaris, Koh Lanta’s only Liveaboard trip was due to operate in October but finally went on the maiden voyage in November.

Lanta Scuba our speed boat operator opened as usual at the start of November and also did the Sail Boat.

All boats are fully operational now with regular visits to Koh Ha, Koh Bida and Hin Daeng.

This is Lanta Scuba enjoying lunch at Koh Ha this week.

But here for the fun part the diving! I have had a new camera the Canon G9 and underwater housing. Now it is a real beast! it seems even i can get great photo’s easily.

Please try to remember tho, if you take your camera be carefull of your buoyancy, your fin / body position and please don’t hang on to the reef. Sometimes one great photo isn’t worth damaging the corals and home’s of the things we want to remember.

This Nudibranch was on the move. Its just arching up trying to find the next point to connect to so it can keep moving. Check out its amazing colours! I took this photo at Koh Bida Nai a dive site near Koh Lanta.

This Ornate Ghostpipefish photo was taken at Koh Ha 1, a dive site visted from Koh Lanta. It was the biggest of a family of 3. Sometimes they are so well camouflaged they are hard to find, but usuaully they stay in the same area which is great!

Hope you Enjoy!
