You need to be staying at the Layana Resort on Long Beach or Rawi Warin Resort and Spa on Klong Nin beach or the Pimalai Resort on Kantiang Bay in order to get a fast boat transfer to and from the island. You can ask for the boat transfer at the time of booking. Both hotels are luxury establishments – follow the links to make your booking and to request a private boat transfer.

Please note that the private boat transfer only operates in high season from November to April and is dependent on the weather. The usual car ferry option would have to be substituted if the sea was too rough for the speedboat.

Bamboo Bay

Bamboo Bay is the furthest beach away from Saladan around a 40 minute taxi ride away. Bamboo Bay has crystal clear waters and a fine white sandy beach and a very relaxed pace to the life. It only has a hand full of simple resorts scattered along the bay and is surrounded by mountains covered with rain forests. Due to its location you will find a quite unspoilt paradise.

Due to its location development hasn’t arrived as quickly to Bamboo Bay as many other beach areas. Which is great in some ways for people who want to get away.

Unfortunately tho the lack of development also means the road is not complete. Please be careful if you are hiring a motorbike and travelling the Island as after you leave Kantiang Bay you will experience the road in many areas like this.

This picture is of the road you have to travel along to reach Bamboo Bay:

This sadly also means allot of the tours and Scuba diving trips will not pick up in this area. If you would like to consider a similar beach which is near check out Kantiang Bayor Khlong Nin.

Khlong Khong

Khlong Khong Beach is known for having very friendly locals. It’s a 3 kilometre stretch of beautiful soft sand fringed with palm trees. The accommodation here is nearly all family run giving a special personal touch and it’s slightly cheaper than the other beach areas.

Another day on Khlong Khong Beach
Another beautiful day on Khlong Khong Beach

During high tide the beach and colour of the water are amazing. However, whilst it is low tide many rocks appear in many places making it not good for swimming and slightly ugly. Luckily though most resorts have got swimming pools.

Khlong Khong is a great place to watch the sunset and at night many bars have their own fire shows and parties. Check out The Sound Shack Bar, Fisherman’s Cottage, Where Else, The Chocolate Bar and Bubble Jungle who host parties on different nights. Some you may be able to dance till the sun comes up. Not so many restaurants are situated on the beach but are set back in the resorts. All of them you can visit but if you want really really great food head south on the beach to Fisherman’s Cottage.

If you walk to the road you have a a few scattered internet shops, coffee shop, and Thai Restaurants where you are always welcome. Please take a torch with you as this stretch of road has no lighting.

Kawkwang Beach

Kawkwang Beach is situated at the northern tip of Koh Lanta, around 1 kilometer from Saladan village and the piers.

This beach area is well known for being small and never crowded. This is mainly due to its location and the main developers have always developed the more popular beaches of Khlong Dao or Long Beach. Only this year has Kawkwang received its first Luxury Resort Lanta Cliff Beach Resort & Spa.

Below are useful links to resorts on Kawkwang Beach which we recommend. Click on any link to view more photos, read guest reviews and book on line:

Kaw Kwang Beach

With no real development you will find there are no shops, internet, restaurants or local amenities in this area unless you go to Saladan village. However there is one great restaurant which is worth checking out sitting on the mountainside overlooking the sea named View Talay.

Kawkwang Beach is joined to Khlong Dao Beach so an easy walk along the beach will find you with many restaurants and beach bars to choose from.

What you do have on Kawkwang is a very relaxed peacefull beach. With some of the best views of the mountains of Koh Lanta. It is also a very good place to watch the sun set and unlike some other beaches its not rocky when the tide goes out.

Khlong Toab Beach

If you want peace and quiet, Khlong Toab is a great choice. There are only a couple of resorts here set on this very small beach, but it’s not far to the other, more developed beaches like Khlong Nin or Long Beach if you want a change of scene one evening.

Kantiang Bay

Kantiang Bay is located towards the southern end of Koh Lanta, about a half hour drive from Saladan Village. It’s a much quieter, more secluded beach than Klong Dao or Long Beach and boasts some of Koh Lantas best soft golden sand which stretches for nearly 2 kilometers. It’s most famous as the location of Pimalai, Koh Lanta’s first luxury hotel.

Below are useful links to resorts on Kantiang Bay which we recommend. Click on any link to view more photos, read guest reviews and book on line:
